Family history research is history brought to life. There is something quite satisfying about placing an ancestor in an historical context; to place them at a particular time at a particular location when X was happening.
And a single, old photograph can tell a thousand tales. Each time I examine one, it is as if I’m looking at it for the first time: It speaks to me in different ways at different hours. Sometimes the tales told from one examination to the next can cause a bit of cognitive dissonance. I am always left wondering.
Family history is a hobby that lets me wear many hats: one day I am researcher, on another day I am detective, on yet another I am creative writer. Then, there is the day that I wear the editor’s hat, and on another I am publisher.
